Group Product Manager – Lighting

The Group Lighting Product Manager is a key member of the company's senior leadership team responsible for driving the strategic development, performance, marketing and growth of the Group's lighting portfolio. This role requires a balance of technical lighting and specification expertise, commercial acumen, and leadership qualities to ensure the Group remains at the forefront of the New Zealand lighting industry.
The successful candidate will take full ownership of the lighting product portfolio, including specification, design, compliance, stock management, entry and exit strategies and supplier relationships. They will lead initiatives that strengthen market presence, drive innovation, and deliver profitable outcomes across all channels.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Act as a core member of the senior leadership team, contributing to company-wide strategies and decision-making.
- Develop and implement the Group's lighting strategy, ensuring alignment with broader company objectives.
- Drive innovation and improvement across lighting operations, product design, and customer experience.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and collaboration within the lighting and wider teams.
2. Product Management & Development
- Oversee the full lighting product lifecycle, from concept and design through to launch and post-market review.
- Manage the Group's lighting stock portfolio, ensuring appropriate range, margin, and turnover performance.
- Identify and evaluate new product opportunities, technologies, and trends to maintain competitive advantage.
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure quality, compliance, and performance standards are met.
3. Specification, Projects & Tenders
- Lead specification work for major projects and tenders across the Group.
- Support internal teams and external customers with technical lighting design advice, application support, and compliance documentation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with architects, consultants, contractors, and distributors to drive specification-based sales.
- Coordinate project pricing, proposals, and tender submissions to ensure alignment with company goals and margin expectations.
4. Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor and support internal teams, sharing product knowledge and technical expertise.
- Work closely with sales, marketing, and operations teams to deliver aligned outcomes and consistent messaging.
- Encourage innovative thinking and empower team members to develop new ideas and better ways of working.
- Promote cross-channel collaboration to ensure lighting remains a key pillar of the Group's value proposition.
5. Commercial & Operational Management
- Monitor category performance, including sales, margins, and stock health, providing insights and actions to improve results.
- Negotiate with suppliers to optimise pricing, terms, and strategic partnerships.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant lighting standards, regulations, and testing requirements.
- Manage budgets, forecasts, and reporting related to the lighting category.
Key Skills & Attributes
- Proven experience in the lighting industry, ideally within product management, design, or technical sales.
- Strong understanding of lighting design principles, specification processes, and industry compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with lighting design tools (e.g., DIALux, Relux, or equivalent) and related software platforms.
- Commercially astute with the ability to interpret data, manage budgets, and drive profitable outcomes.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities with a collaborative, team-first mindset.
- Creative problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
- A proactive, self-driven attitude with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
