Finance Manager

We're Overland Group – the team behind Merchant 1948, Mi Piaci and Overland Australia. We're a family-owned footwear business with more than 30 stores across New Zealand and Australia, supported by a passionate Support Office based in Newmarket.

Our Finance Team is growing, and we're looking for an experienced Finance Manager to lead our day-to-day finance operations, drive continuous improvement, and support the business across NZ, AU and our related entities, including Goodsole Limited (Xero).

This is a hands-on leadership role with ownership of core finance processes, cash flow, reporting and system improvements, while guiding a team of four.

You'll also help shape future projects including ERP replacement, web replat forming and process automation.

What you'll be responsible for

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead and coach a Finance team of four (e.g., Accounts Payable, Accounts Assistant, and other finance support roles).
• Ensure all finance tasks are completed accurately and on time.
• Promote a positive, values-led team culture.

Financial Operations

• Oversee daily, weekly and monthly financial processes including invoices, payments, reconciliations and month-end close.
• Manage NZ and AU payroll reviews (processing supported by PAC / outsourced).
• Ensure internal controls are strong and fraud risk is minimised.

Cash Flow & Payments

• Lead cash flow management and daily forecasting.
• Manage accounts payable and ensure payments align with delegated authorities.
• Work with our China factory team on cash requirements and timing.

Reporting & Analysis

• Deliver accurate month-end reporting and variance analysis.
• Partner with cost centre owners, property, operations and commercial teams.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and business case preparation.

Tax, Banking & Compliance

• Manage statutory requirements, tax payments and audit information for external accountants.
• Monitor bank covenants and prepare compliance reporting.
• Oversee FX cover and banking operations.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Work across NAV 2011 (Finance ERP), Ontempo (retail POS/inventory) and Xero (Goodsole Limited).
• Investigate and improve system workflows, integrations and data accuracy.

• Lead and support key projects including:

• ERP replacement in the next 1–2 years

• Web replatforming (impacting payment reconciliations)
• Transfer pricing framework
• Replacing invoice approval system (Plus One)

What we're looking for

Technical Strengths

• Strong process improvement mindset
• Excellent cash flow management
• Confident with balance sheet reviews, reconciliations and historical clean-ups
• Experience across ERP/POS systems, retail systems, payment methods (Afterpay, Windcave, Shop Pay, Alipay etc)
• Solid tax knowledge (GST, FBT), and understanding of multi-entity accounting
• Commercial acumen – business cases, sales metrics, negotiating with landlords and suppliers
• Experience with inventory, budgeting and forecasting
• Exposure to banking processes, covenants and treasury operations
• Confidence working across NZ/AU/China or similar cross-border structures
