Strategic Programme Lead

Wellington Central, Wellington, New Zealand Pāmu Full time

THE OPPORTUNITY

If you're passionate about the future of farming and want to help shape how New Zealand leads in sustainable, technology driven agriculture - this is your chance to make it happen.

As Pāmu's Strategic Programme Lead, you'll take the lead on our LIFT (Livestock Innovation Future Transformation) Programme - a bold, national initiative designed to transform New Zealand's red-meat sector through technology adoption, environmental performance, and data-driven management.

This is a role where you'll see real impact. You'll help scale technologies like virtual fencing and animal wearables across beef and sheep systems, building on proven success in the dairy sector. It's about turning innovation into everyday practice - delivering profitable, low-footprint, and climate-resilient farming systems.

This is also a newly created position, so you'll be shaping it from day one - setting the direction, designing systems, and creating something lasting. You'll be joining an engaged, future-focused team that's genuinely committed to making a difference for the sector, the environment, and rural communities.

While you'll be based in Wellington, you'll travel across Aotearoa to visit farms, partners, and see progress firsthand. This mix of strategy, collaboration, and in-field experience makes the role both dynamic and deeply rewarding.

This is a real opportunity to help lead meaningful, sector-wide change, and see the results on the ground.

The position is fixed term for two years.

ABOUT US

Pāmu Landcorp Farming Limited is a State-Owned Enterprise with over 110 farms across New Zealand. Our purpose is to lead the delivery of innovative and sustainable agriculture solutions for future generations.

ABOUT YOU

You're motivated by purpose and progress. You like seeing ideas come to life, not just on paper, but in the paddock. You're someone who connects people, builds trust, and inspires action.

You'll bring strong programme leadership experience - ideally in agriculture, AgriTech, or another innovation driven field, and you know how to navigate complex projects involving many partners.

You have well established relationships across the sector and are comfortable influencing at every level, from farmers to government decision-makers.

You'll thrive here if you:

  • Have a natural ability to connect and influence people to move toward shared goals.
  • Understand farming systems and how to turn innovation into practical, on-farm outcomes.
  • Are confident leading large, multi-stakeholder programmes and government-funded initiatives.
  • Are curious about technology, from wearables and virtual fencing to data platforms and digital tools, and how these can transform the sector.
  • Enjoy balancing strategic thinking with time out in the field seeing how things really work.

If you're ready to be part of something that's genuinely changing the future of farming in New Zealand, and to build a programme that will make a lasting impact, this role offers you that opportunity.

BENEFITS

We offer a competitive salary package, including health and life insurance, enhanced parental leave benefits, and up to 4% KiwiSaver matching. You'll also receive an extra day of leave over Christmas, plus ongoing training and development.
