About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist with previous experience in Burns and Scar management in a hospital setting working across acute inpatients and outpatient clinic settings. You will work as part of a specialised team, providing therapy services to inpatients, outpatients and patients in rural clinics.

Key responsibilities:

  • Apply clinical knowledge and skills across all domains of occupational therapy in community and hospital settings.
  • Implement the occupational therapy process, including assessment, goal setting, planning, intervention delivery, and evaluation for tangata whaiora.
  • Facilitate individual and group therapeutic interventions aimed at improving or maintaining occupational participation and functional independence.
  • Collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary and inter-professional teams to provide integrated, client-centered care.
  • Deliver efficient, evidence-based occupational therapy services that meet professional standards and promote cultural responsiveness.

About the Team/Service

You will be based at the Meade Clinical Centre located on the Waikato Hospital campus, with the potential for visits to our rural hospitals in order to provide clinical input. Our organisation is a tertiary hospital trauma service, and as such has a wide range of complex injuries coming through our doors. We enjoy close proximity and working relationships with the plastics and orthopaedic surgeons and are looking for someone who understands the value of collaborative working.

About you

To be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Registration and current annual practicing certificate with Te Poari Whakaora Ngangahau o Aotearoa (the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand).
  • Ideally 5 plus years clinical experience.
  • An ability to live and lead the Waikato District values of Whakamana (Give and earn respect), Whakarongo (Listen to me; talk to me), Mauri Pai (Fair Play), Whakapakari (Growing the good), Kotahitanga (Stronger Together).
  • A commitment to achieving excellent clinical and business outcomes based on quality service delivery and outstanding and empathetic patients care.
  • Ability to manage a complex caseload of patients across the age continuum.
  • An ability to work autonomously completing comprehensive clinical assessments, as well as use adult teaching principles to engage health consumers.
  • A strong team focus, and excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
  • A full clean New Zealand drivers license.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
