- We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Allied Health Assistant to join our Older Persons’ Rehabilitation Team. This position provides support to both the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy team. It is a flexible position that can cover clinical area’s predominantly in Older Persons’ Rehabilitation, but also other inpatient services as determined by clinical need.
- This is a fantastic opportunity for an Allied Health Assistant to become an integral member of the team; you will be working with patients, their whanau and staff. Allied Health Assistants rotate around all areas of the service to gain specialist skills in rehabilitation. Some areas may include weekend shift work. We are looking for applicants with either previous therapy assistant or healthcare experience.
**The work involves tasks such as**:
- Supervising patients to go through their exercise/therapy programme as prescribed by a qualified physiotherapist/occupational therapist-
- Helping patients to regain their independence with activities of daily living following medical illness/surgery-
- Assisting the qualified staff to run exercise groups or breakfast/lunch groups-
- Cleaning, issuing, restocking/ordering of equipment such as walking aids and exercise equipment-

- Allied Health is a department of Waikato Hospital that provides Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Dietetic, Audiology & New Born Hearing screening, Social Work, and Psychology services. Staff within these professions are all involved in direct client care and work in a wide range of situations to improve the health and wellbeing of the people they work with. Their work includes people who are acutely unwell in hospital, or requiring rehabilitation for serious illness or injury, people who have chronic illness or disability and need to improve functional independence and quality of life.
- Allied Health staff work in partnership with individuals and their family/whanau to facilitate relationships and a smooth journey through the healthcare system.

- We are seeking someone who has;- A positive a flexible attitude and excellent people skills an ability to work as part of a team-
- Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills-
- Basic computer skills-
- Excellent time management skills and an ability to flex and adapt depending on work demands-
- Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi-
- A current full NZ drivers licence-
