Position purpose
The Logistics Team Leader supports the Logistics Supervisor by overseeing logistics and warehouse operations including inwards/outwards goods, inventory, yard activities, drivers, and transport. The role ensures supply-chain efficiency, supports project timelines, and delivers materials accurately and on time.
You will provide hands-on leadership and technical expertise, drive productivity, safety, and compliance, and lead continuous improvement through lean and 5S practices, KPI ownership, and a proactive health and safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics and Transport Coordination
Plan, schedule, and coordinate movement of goods and materials.
Oversee drivers and yard staff to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Verify receipts, inspect for damage, and resolve discrepancies.
Manage company vehicles, ensuring maintenance and pre-start checks.
Maintain accurate delivery and transport records.
Track orders and escalate issues as required.
Inventory and Warehouse Management
Monitor and manage inventory levels to meet operational needs while reducing excess stock.
Process purchase orders and ensure accurate, timely delivery to production.
Maintain precise stock records and reconciliations.
Ensure warehouse and yard organisation meet H&S standards.
Manage warehouse equipment and support systems.
Team Leadership and Development
Supervise and coach the logistics team, providing clear guidance and feedback.
Allocate tasks effectively and promote cross-training.
Foster a safe, productive, and positive culture.
Monitor performance and take corrective action where needed.
Lead by example with professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
Health, Safety and Compliance
Ensure operations comply with company H&S procedures and legislation.
Maintain a safe working environment and monitor risk controls.
Enforce compliance for transport, vehicle maintenance, and material handling.
Lead toolbox talks and safety discussions.
Support hazard reporting and corrective actions.
Key Relationships
Internal: General Manager, Production Operations Manager, Project Managers, Construction Project Managers, Manufacturing Team Leaders, Supply Chain Team Leaders, Operations Coordinator, Woods Glass and TCL branches.
External: Suppliers, technicians, service providers, and representatives from Schüco and Jansen partnerships.
Qualifications, Certifications and Experience
Essential
NCEA Level 3 (or equivalent NZQA qualification).
Relevant logistics, trade, or warehouse qualification or equivalent experience.
3–5 years' experience in warehouse, transport, or logistics operations.
1–2 years in a supervisory or team leader role.
Proven ability to manage drivers and warehouse teams.
Experience with WMS/ERP systems (e.g. TPM, SAP) and inventory control.
Forklift licence and hands-on operational experience.
Strong knowledge of transport and vehicle management.
Commitment to safety, compliance, and accuracy.
Effective leadership and communication skills.
Desirable
Diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or Business.
Supervisory or management certification (e.g. NZIM Certificate).
Professional logistics credentials (e.g. APICS CSCP, CLTD, CILT).
Training in Lean, Kaizen, or Six Sigma.
Experience with TMS and RF scanners.
Knowledge of hazardous goods, customs, and freight compliance.
Advanced H&S certifications (First Aid or equivalent).
KPI reporting and performance analytics experience.
