Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is a hapū of Ngāti Whātua. We live in and around the Tāmaki isthmus. We hold to our mana motuhake, our history, our culture, our identity, and our reo. Our whakapapa traces to Tuperiri and the hapū Ngā Oho, Te Taoū, and Te Uringutu.
We are tangata whenua in Tāmaki. Our authority over land and sea rests on take tupuna, take raupatu, ahi kā, and tuku whenua.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust looks after the collective affairs of our hapū. We have more than 8,000 registered members across Aotearoa and overseas. Ōrākei Marae is our cultural hub.
Te Kahu Tōpuni o Tuperiri describes the protective reach of our ancestor across our rohe.
Purpose of the role
We are looking for a Health & Safety Coordinator to keep our day-to-day health and safety mahi on track. This role is key in supporting the Health, Safety & Security Manager, ensuring training, reporting, and checks are well coordinated so that our workplaces are safe and our kaimahi feel confident in what to do.
The role provides first-line advice, ensures accurate record keeping, and coordinates training and reporting platforms, while contributing to a strong culture of health and safety across Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.

Essential
- Proven administration and coordination experience
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to manage confidential information with integrity
- Strong communication and relationship management skills
Desirable
- Experience working in iwi or te ao Māori context
- Ideally a certification level or above HSE (NZ) qualification
- Familiarity with health and safety reporting platforms and LMS systems
- Experience coordinating training or compliance processes

Key Responsibilities:
Track progress against the HSE annual plan and provide timely updates.
Coordinate and record audits, reports, and training evaluations.
Provide initial health & safety advice and resources to line managers.
Support risk management processes and reporting.
Ensure HSE and security training records are maintained in the centralised platform.
Support onboarding processes so new kaimahi understand their health & safety obligations.
Liaise with providers, service partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure best practice.
