ABOUT US

With over 90 Op Shops across New Zealand, we give second-hand goods a new life and every purchase helps rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need.

We looking for a strong, hands-on retail assistant to support our busy Taupo store. This is an exciting opportunity for someone ready to be involved in building something from the ground up, establishing a high-preforming, community focused store that supports SPCA's mission to care for animals in need.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Op Shop Assistant is a permanent part time role, working 125 hours per week, Sundays 8.45 am pm and Mondays 8.45 am pm as well as flexibility to cover leave and busy periods.

Key responsibilities include

  • Sole charge of the store working to support daily shop operations.
  • Receive, sort, price, and merchandise donated goods in line with SPCA guidelines.
  • Ensure the shop is clean, welcoming, and well-stocked throughout the day.
  • Serve customers with warmth and professionalism, promoting positive donor and shopper experiences.
  • Accurately process sales and cash handling, including end-of-day reconciliation.
  • Provide cover and basic team supervision in the manager's absence.
  • Help support and guide volunteers in their roles.
  • Ensure health & safety and SPCA procedures are followed.

ABOUT YOU

You're a team player with a passion for great service and a knack for retail. Whether it's pricing donated goods, helping customers, or supporting volunteers, you enjoy pitching in wherever needed to keep things running smoothly.

Skills & Experience

  • Retail or customer service experience (charity retail a bonus).
  • Confident working sole charge and making operational decisions when required.
  • Able to work flexibly across the shop floor, till, and sorting area.
  • Confident communicator who enjoys helping others.
  • Reliable, organised, and proactive with good attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a team and independently.
  • Physically fit and able to lift/move stock as required.
