Tā mātou arawātea | Our Opportunity:
We are looking for a Project Coordinator to join our Major Geothermal Programme Team. You'll play a key role in supporting and influencing the successful delivery of our Major Geothermal Projects.

The team are currently working on OEC05, a $220m expansion of the existing Ngā Tamariki Station, 20km north of Taupō. This project will deliver another 390GWh annually, the equivalent electricity to power all residential homes in Tauranga. This project will complete in 2026 and the team will then move onto the next selected major geothermal project(s). Mercury has committed to a programme of geothermal expansion with up to 5 TWh of additional geothermal generation over the next decade.

You'll work closely with the Programme Manager, Project Managers and the wider team to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and effectively, meet customer and supplier expectations, and align with Mercury's commitment to operational excellence and sustainability.

You'll be involved in everything from financial reporting and project systems to operational readiness and documentation, with opportunities to spend time on-site and gain exposure to large-scale infrastructure and future generation projects.

In this role there is a potential pathway into project management, which is ideal for someone with a project management / engineering education who wishes to pursue this longer term career path.

There is preference for this role to be based in
Rotorua or Taupō
, close to Mercury's geothermal assets and the Rotorua office where the majority of the team is based.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Project Coordination & Support: Assist Programme Manager and Project Managers with project processes, data capture, risk management and contract development.
  • Financial Management: Use Workday and Maximo to manage Purchase Orders, invoices, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Project Systems: Act as a superuser for project tools like Workday, Aconex and Altus (our Portfolio Project Management tool), ensuring data quality and compliance with Project Management Office (PMO) standards.
  • Operational Readiness: Support the coordination of documentation, drawings, manuals, and punch list items to ensure smooth project close-out and handover.
  • PMO & Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with the PMO to uplift project delivery standards and contribute to process improvements. At times your work may include work directly within the PMO.
  • Procurement & Contract Administration: Assist in procurement planning, support contact negotiation and assist contract administration.
  • General Administration: Manage documentation, coordinate travel and meetings, site offices and maintain SharePoint sites.

  • A tertiary qualification in engineering, project management, commerce or business or a related field.
  • A strong interest in working in an engineering environment and potentially (for the right candidate) developing into a Project Manager.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • A collaborative, team-first attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Experience with tools like Workday, Maximo, Altus, Aconex or similar systems (preferred but not essential).
