The Flooring Room provides comprehensive flooring solutions to residential and commercial customers.  We are a locally owned family business, combining decades of flooring experience with great value and fantastic service. Due to an internal promotion and growing business, we are currently seeking a positive self-starter to join our retail sales team in Palmerston North. As a team, we live our family values, and care about each other and our customers.  Yes, we are passionate about Flooring, but more than anything we believe in a great team providing fantastic service.  We take the time to develop and maintain great customer relationships, listen to customer needs, and deliver a flooring solution they will love.

Being organised and self-motivated is critical to our success at The Flooring Room.  We'll stop at nothing to make flooring easy for our customers and we believe in doing what we say we will – on-time, every time.  Enjoying a laugh, taking pride in doing a great job, and being motivated to succeed are important attributes we are seeking.

About the role

This role would suit someone who loves consultative sales and has an eye for detail.  This is very much a customer facing role and as The Flooring Room is fanatical about providing remarkable service – you have to be exceptional with customers. The role involves extensive product knowledge, consultations, measuring/quantifying flooring and quoting using the latest technology. Income is uncapped and career opportunities are considerable.

About you

You believe not only in "the sale", but the positive experience that great service brings to the customer.  The right attitude and motivation is just as important to us than the right experience.  You must be a team player, willing and quick to learn new systems and processes. You have:

  • A proven background in consultative sales – and a desire to understand what our customers need
  • Sales experience in the construction industry - preferred but not essential as full training is provided
  • Competence with computers and usual software packages
  • An ability to read/understand floor plans
  • Experience in quoting & estimating is desirable
