We are looking for a motivated and energetic Coastal Scientist with a passion for the environment to join our Knowledge Water Ecosystems Team. This is a fixed-term role or secondment through to February 2027 to cover parental leave, based in our Wellington office.

About the role

We are looking for an entry/intermediate level marine biologist or ecologist to support the Greater Wellington Marine and Coastal Monitoring Programme.

Working alongside our Wellington based Senior Environmental Scientist (Coast) and Senior Environmental Officer, you will:-

  • Undertake scientific monitoring and reporting for estuarine and nearshore environments.
  • Support the development and implementation of community-based monitoring.
  • Present science to a wide range of audiences, including mana whenua, stakeholders, and community groups.

Skills and experience required:

  • Have a working knowledge of scientific monitoring techniques, experimental design, and quality control and management of environmental data.
  • Applicable post graduate degree (or equivalent experience) majoring in environmental science or a related area.
  • Have GIS and statistical capabilities.
  • Hold a full and current driver licence and a good driving track record.

The remuneration range for this position, inclusive of all benefits, is $88,012 to $132,019, with a midpoint of $110,015. Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
