About the role

As the Duty Manager, you are responsible for overseeing the daily operations of hotel departments, acting as the key contact in absence of senior management. The Duty Manager supports all departments, they are responsible for ensuring communication and operations flow seamlessly - providing exceptional customer service to guests and compliance with applicable laws, regulations and promoting a safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Oversee the daily operations of the hotel or restaurant during assigned shifts.

· Ensure exceptional guest service is consistently delivered across all areas.

· Respond to and resolve guest feedback, incidents, or service issues in a professional manner.

· Support and coordinate with department supervisors (Front Office, F&B, Housekeeping, etc.) to maintain smooth service flow.

· Lead by example, fostering a positive, professional and service-oriented culture.

· Conduct shift briefings and debriefs to ensure key information is shared.

· Supervise, coach, and support staff during shifts to uphold brand and service standards.

· Maintain a strong floor presence during peak periods, assisting teams as needed.

· Handle cash, reconcile shift reports and oversee daily transaction accuracy.

· Monitor staff compliance with policies, grooming, health & safety standards and compliance legislation.

· Conduct property walk-through's to identify maintenance or operational issues.

· Support training and on-boarding of new team members where required.

· Supervise the security arrangements and ensure the proper maintenance of the property.

· Act as the primary point of contact for all operational matters during assigned shifts.

· Act as the property's point of contact for emergencies and after-hours decisions.

· Attend and participate in work health and safety meetings to ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a safe work environment.

· Prepare shift and incident reports and communicate key updates to management.

What we are looking for

•      Minimum 2 years' experience in a supervisory or management role within the hospitality (Front Office or Food & Beverage preferred).

•      Current Managers Certificate (desired but not essential).

•      Full & Clean NZ drivers license.

•      Must have excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

•      Strong leadership, guest service and a conflict resolution skills.

•      Knowledge of POS and property management systems advantageous.

•      Sound knowledge of hotel or restaurant operations.

•      Must have a high level of attention to detail and be able to maintain accurate records.

•      Able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

•      Fluent English essential, additional languages an advantage.

•      Excellent written skills. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.

•      Problem solving, decision making and organizational abilities.

•      Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, public holidays, mornings or nights.
