About New Zealand Blood Service
New Zealand Blood and Organ Service (NZBS) is dedicated to saving lives. Every year, tens of thousands of generous people donate their time, blood and plasma to us for free. In addition to our vein to vein service in transfusion we also provide national services in organ transplantation, cellular therapies and tissue banking. We exist to ensure the efficient delivery of safe blood and tissue products on a time critical basis throughout New Zealand and through the generosity of our donors, we are able to help save lives.
Our shared values are at the heart of our organisation's culture and guide our behaviour each and every day. These values inspire, motivate us and drive us to provide the very best service to the New Zealand public.

About the role
This is an exciting opportunity working in a unique part of the health sector, where although you are not working as part of a DHB, you are still caring for people and making a huge difference to patient outcomes.
There is a lot more to being a nurse at NZBS other than just taking blood. Dealing with primarily well people gives a different perspective to a working day. You can say goodbye to night shifts as you'll be working Monday to Friday with the occasional Saturday.
Shifts are 8 hours long and consist of rotating rosters between the hours of 06.45am and 9.00pm.
This is a fixed term parental leave cover role starting ASAP to the beginning of October 2026 working 40 hours per week.
About you and the role
As our donors regularly go out of their way to give up their time to donate blood, great customer service is key to ensuring they have an amazing donation experience that encourages their continued support. So to be successful in this role you'll be a great communicator with good written and verbal skills, vital for reassuring the donor every step of the way.
We welcome enquiries from RNs and ENs who will utilise their health assessment, critical thinking and reflective practice skills to contribute to all aspects of the collection of blood products and donor health education in our donor room collects. No phlebotomy experience needed Let us train you
A comprehensive induction programme and training available.
