About the role

With new ownership on the horizon, we are seeking an Estimator to join our dynamic team at Hickey Contractors, on a part-time contract basis, with the opportunity to increase hours and responsibility as grow further. As our Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in delivering accurate and detailed cost estimates for a variety of construction projects in the Bay of Plenty region. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of construction estimating to support the successful delivery of our clients' projects.

What you'll be doing

  1. Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects, considering all relevant materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs
  2. Analyse project plans, specifications, and other documentation to identify and quantify required resources
  3. Handover and collaborate with project managers, quantity surveyors, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates are comprehensive and align with project requirements
  4. Develop and maintain comprehensive cost databases to support accurate and efficient estimating
  5. Provide expert advice and recommendations to the project team to optimise costs and identify potential savings
  6. Continuously research and stay up-to-date with market trends, pricing, and industry best practices

What we're looking for

  1. Minimum 2 years of experience as an Estimator
  2. Demonstrated expertise in preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for a variety of construction projects
  3. Proficient in the use of estimating software and tools, such as Excel and specialised estimating applications
  4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risk
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  6. Thorough understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry regulations
