What's the opportunity?

We're looking for an experienced Estimator, who specialises in residential construction to join our team and help bring our various construction projects to life.

As our Residential Estimator, you will play a hands-on role in bringing great builds to life. From early design and pricing through to completion, you'll be involved in every stage — helping ensure each build runs smoothly, stays on budget, and exceeds expectations.

Working closely with project managers, site teams, and clients, you'll help ensure each home is delivered to a high standard, on schedule, and within budget.

You'll also have the opportunity to provide QS support to our existing residential /commercial team, giving you variety in your day-to-day and exposure to a broad range of projects.

What you'll be doing:

  • Reviewing architectural drawings, engineering plans, and client specifications to prepare detailed cost estimates
  • Completing material and labour take-offs for various residential builds and variations
  • Sourcing and comparing quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure best value
  • Working closely with project managers and site teams to monitor budgets and track costs
  • Attending site meetings, liaising with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients and creating great relationships with everyone

What you will bring to the table

  • 3–5+ years of estimating experience in a New Zealand residential construction environment, ideally with a main contractor

  • Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, and trades

  • Proven ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings

  • Confident with take-offs, cost planning, and managing budgets through the build
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Top communication skills and the ability to build epic relationships with clients, subbies, and the SABRE crew.

  • You are proactive and self-motivated — you take ownership and get things done.

  • You roll with the punches and go with the flow — things change fast around here.

  • You're a good human. Positive, down-to-earth, and always ready for a laugh.
  • You're not afraid to muck in and help your teammates when it counts.
