About the role

Hickey Contractors is under new ownership, and we are looking for a talented Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Rotorua, on a part-time (2-to-3-days per week) basis, or as a contractor. As a Heavy Diesel Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing our heavy machinery and trucks, ensuring their operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Partnering with our Workshop Technician, Contracts Manager, and Foremen and Supervisors, you will prioritise work and deliver value to the fleet, and to our teams.

What you'll be doing

  1. Diagnose and repair a wide range of heavy diesel engines, transmissions, and other components
  2. Conduct scheduled maintenance and servicing on heavy equipment
  3. Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues
  4. Maintain detailed records of all work performed
  5. Collaborate with the broader team to ensure the timely completion of all assigned tasks
  6. Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations

What we're looking for

  1. Proven experience as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic
  2. Strong technical knowledge of heavy diesel engines, transmissions, and other related components
  3. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  4. Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  5. Commitment to maintaining a safe and organised work environment
  6. Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  7. Current driver's licence and own reliable transportation
