Mō te Tūranga | About the role
Join ASB's Identity & Integration platform, where we deliver fast, reliable, and innovative tech solutions. As part of the Modern Integration workstream, you'll lead solution design and strategic work for our API and integration platforms—driving transformation with cutting-edge tools and a focus on simplicity, security, and speed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Platform development – Design and build an API-driven PaaS solution for seamless integration across internal systems.
  • API design & architecture – Lead API design using OpenAPI specs, ensuring security, scalability, and performance.
  • Solution design – Analyse requirements and design technical solutions that meet functional and non-functional needs (e.g. security, extensibility, maintainability).
  • Code review – Assess existing codebases, uphold design principles, and recommend improvements.
  • DevOps & CI/CD – Implement and optimise pipelines, automation, and infrastructure using Azure DevOps.
  • Documentation & standards – Create clear technical documentation, naming conventions, and integration standards.
  • Collaboration & mentoring – Influence API design decisions and support developers with best practice guidance.

We're looking for a seasoned Software Engineer with deep expertise in API design and integration. You'll bring strong technical leadership, hands-on development skills, and a passion for building secure, scalable solutions.

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years' experience leading technical design or providing deep expertise in API development and solution architecture
  • Proven track record designing and developing APIs (HTTP, REST) with strong architectural knowledge
  • Expertise in API security including modern authentication methods and performance optimisation
  • Advanced .NET and C# skills, plus experience with API design tools like Redocly and SwaggerHub
  • Hands-on DevOps experience, including CI/CD pipeline setup and automation (preferably with Azure DevOps)
  • Proficiency in Git and source control best practices
  • Strong analytical skills for technical analysis, requirements gathering, and solution architecture
  • Clear technical writing for documentation and design specifications

Bonus Skills

  • Experience in banking, payments, lending, or Open Banking systems
  • Familiarity with Banking Industry Architecture Network (BIAN)
