Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

As a Technical Officer in the Division of Health, you'll deliver high-quality technical support that underpins our teaching and research in Health Science from applied sciences and clinical skills to simulation and cutting-edge digital technologies. Your expertise will help bring learning to life, ensuring our students gain the practical, hands-on experience they need to excel.

You'll be part of a collaborative team of Technical Officers, each with specialist skills, working together to support the Division's professional health programmes. While you'll have your own focus area, you'll also share knowledge and responsibilities across the team, particularly with colleagues in clinical and applied sciences, ensuring our staff and students receive seamless, expert support at every stage.

Salary will be in the range of $71,275 to $84,695 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours a week), based on our Hillcrest Campus.

Ko wai koe? – Who are you?

You are an experienced and hands-on technical professional with a strong background in a scientific/ health science laboratory-based environment. You have a proven track record in operating and maintaining laboratory instruments, equipment, reagents etc. Additional experience in handling and operating simulation manikins, VR technologies and basic AV/IT equipment and devices would be ideal. Your expertise extends to planning and coordinating teaching and research activities with a strong emphasis on health and safety. You are highly skilled in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and contributing to the development of new resources, with excellent written and oral communication abilities, advanced ICT skills, and strong analytical and data management capabilities. 

You are highly organised and capable of leading multiple small to medium projects simultaneously, managing complex workloads and prioritising tasks effectively. Flexibility with timing to accommodate varying lab schedules is important for this role. Your experience includes project coordination, inventory tracking, arranging servicing, and raising purchase requests. You possess knowledge of health and safety requirements, ideally with experience in tertiary academic or healthcare settings, and hold a full New Zealand driver's licence (or equivalent). A relevant tertiary qualification is essential, and a Master's qualification or scientific instrument servicing experience is highly desirable.
