Backdoor is NZ's leading surf store, proudly Kiwi-owned and driven by a passion for boardriding culture. We're on the hunt for a Hardware Assistant to take charge of wetsuits, surf and skate hardware in our Dunedin store and help lead the stoke.

What you'll be doing
  • Deliver epic customer service and build loyal, repeat customers
  • Lead our wetsuit & hardware programme – from merchandising to product knowledge
  • Manage returns, repairs, exchanges, and replacements correctly & efficiently
  • Keep hardware & wetsuit stock tidy, organised, and well-presented
  • Train and support staff to confidently sell and talk wetsuits, surf & skate gear
  • Help run the store when the Manager/2IC is away
  • Stay across trends and top sellers in surf/skate hardware
  • Ensure surfboards are packaged and handled with care
  • Lead by example with sales, product knowledge, and customer vibes
We're looking for someone who
  • Has solid wetsuit, surf & skate hardware knowledge
  • Is regularly out in the surf, who is aware of conditions and new technology
  • Is passionate about the surf/skate lifestyle & industry
  • Brings strong customer service and confident sales skills
  • Enjoys coaching others and lifting team capability
  • Is confident running shifts and stepping into leadership when needed
  • Stays calm under pressure and solves problems on the fly
  • Has great communication and organisational skills
  • Can maintain high store standards and drive sales performance
