Senior Automotive Air-Conditioning Technician

CoolCar Air-Conditioning & Heating Hamilton is seeking an experienced senior technician to join our high-performing automotive air-conditioning and heating team.

This is a senior role with a substantial mobile component, supporting retail and trade automotive customers, trucking, farming and contracting clients, caravan and motorhome owners and suppliers.

We repair and diagnose A/C systems across all vehicle makes and models, including light and heavy vehicles, EVs, hybrids, motorhomes, trucks and earthmoving equipment.

The work is dynamic and exciting because of the range of vehicles and faults we see and the fact that we are looking to provide a lasting, environmentally friendly repair, we get to the heart of the problem.

We also conduct auto electrical diagnosis and repairs on air-conditioning and other vehicle systems, light transport refrigeration, portable fridge repairs, roof top vehicle AC installations and repairs, mechanical servicing and repairs, and all manner of other maintenance requirements on caravans and motor homes.

Job Description:

• Diagnose and repair automotive air-conditioning & heating in vehicle air-conditioning systems at our Hamilton-based workshop and at mobile jobs.
• Install and repair vehicle air-conditioning equipment and components, including condensers, compressors and evaporators, including in the field.
• Diagnose and repair auto electrical problems related to air-conditioning
• Diagnose and repair faults with portable fridge freezers, in conjunction with electricians and gas fitters when required, roof top air-conditioning, portable water heaters and other caravan and motor home appliances, including off-grid power solutions.
• Other mechanical, auto electrical and other repairs as required
• Confidently translate evaluations of faulty vehicles into sales
• Maintain mobile van stock and equipment
• Workshop and equipment maintenance
• Work to a high standard of workmanship with strong attention to detail
• Communicate clearly with customers and team members
• Mentor junior staff if required
• Able to independently, including mobile jobs
• Strong mechanical aptitude

Key Terms & Conditions

• We are offering a permanent, full-time role where ordinary hours are Monday to Friday.  Minimum guaranteed hours per week are 40.
• Competitive remuneration is between $ /hours based on experience.
• The opportunity to step into the senior mobile role as a long-term team member transitions towards retirement.
• Training available in complete AC system and RV appliance diagnosis and repairs
• Our business is summer seasonal so your availability for extra hours and hard work over the summertime is essential.  Several hours of paid overtime can be expected each week including rostered and extra Saturdays.
• If asked, you must work up to an additional 10-hours overtime per week including rostered and extra Saturdays, to cater for the seasonal customer demand.
• In recognition, Availability Compensation is paid per ordinary hour worked at a rate of an additional $50/week for 40 ordinary hours (pro rata), plus your hourly rate for any overtime hours worked, up to 10 hours per week.
• Further overtime is by mutual agreement only and compensated for at your normal hourly rate.
• Leave will be consistent with NZ employment law.

Minimum Qualifications & Work Experience

You must at least 2 years full-time experience in one or more of the following:

• Automotive electrical
• Automotive mechanical
• Diesel mechanical
• Heavy equipment or machinery repair
• Automotive air-conditioning

And

• Must be able to drive competently with a New Zealand Driver's Licence or International Driver's Licence
• English language skills sufficient to follow and complete job cards, carry out quoting, training and day-to-day interactions with customers and co-workers.
• Physically fit to manage the work required
