Strength and Conditioning Intern or Support
2 weeks ago
Swimgym and HPK Swimming are looking for a driven, technically sharp, athlete-centred Strength & Conditioning Coach to help develop the next wave of New Zealand and Pacific talent.
Our programme sits at the heart of community, performance, and wellbeing. With strong values of Community, Diversity, Leadership, Passion, Performance and Kia Kaha, we work every day to grow confident, capable young people — in and out of the pool.
This role is perfect for someone who wants to contribute to a world-class aquatic environment, work across multiple training sites, and collaborate with coaches, physios, parents, and performance staff to support resilient, progressive, high-functioning athletes.
Why join us?- Be part of a respected, ambitious performance programme
- Work closely with experienced coaches, support staff and highly motivated athletes
- Help shape S&C frameworks for prehab, rehab, strength, speed, mobility and conditioning
- Contribute to injury prevention, athlete monitoring and long-term athlete development
- Part-time permanent role (~10 hours/week + prep time)
- Supportive environment where your ideas, expertise and data really matter
- Play an important role in the wellbeing and performance of swimmers aged youth–senior
- Deliver and support a world-class Strength & Conditioning, Prehab and Rehab programme
- Underpin and complement the work of our Performance Manager and swim coaches
- Monitor, track and report athlete data (skinfolds, injury logs, screenings, progressions)
- Collaborate with coaches, physio, massage and support personnel
- Support athlete engagement and communication with families
- Assist in programme planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement
- Maintain safe, standards-based practice across all sites
- Promote a culture of learning, wellbeing and athlete responsibility
This is a role where your influence is felt daily — from reducing injuries to building stronger, faster, more confident athletes.
What you'll bring- Relevant S&C, sport science, exercise physiology or coaching qualifications
- Experience working with youth, development or performance athletes (aquatics a bonus)
- Strong technical competency and a growth mindset
- Excellent communication with athletes, coaches and parents
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and athlete management
- Professional integrity, reliability, and alignment with Swimgym/HPK values
- Current First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain)
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand and the ability to pass safety checks
This is a part-time permanent position (~12 hours per week + prep), with work centred around:
- Lloyd Elsmore Park
- Howick Intermediate
- Pakuranga College
…and other satellite training sites as required.
Some weekend or competition support may be required.
Ready to Apply? If this sounds like you — or if you'd like a conversation before applying — we'd love to hear from you.
Help us build resilient athletes, stronger communities, and a performance environment that truly makes a difference.
