Senior Adviser, International Relations
A great place to work. With great work to do.
Ours is a meaningful and impactful role, as a kaitiaki (caretakers) of the financial services in Aotearoa. We oversee a market that does right by everyone, ensuring better outcomes for all New Zealanders. Our role as a kaitiaki is brought to life by our values; Look to the Horizon, Help the Team Work, Make the Calls and Open Hearts, Open Minds.
TeTūranga | The Role
We're looking for a proactive and strategic Senior Adviser, International Relations to lead and coordinate the FMA's international engagement programme. This is a role with plenty of scope at the intersection of global financial regulation and domestic policy, where you'll ensure New Zealand's voice is heard and our regulatory approach stays connected with international best practice.
This role offers the opportunity to understand our work in a global context, as well as regular engagement with senior leaders across the FMA. The successful candidate may be required to travel internationally, but this will be mostly limited to Australia.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing day-to-day engagement and relationships with key international stakeholders, including regulators in Australia, Asia and the UK.
Co-ordinating FMA's participation in global forums.
Preparing our senior leaders for engagements with global regulators and policymakers, ensuring they are well prepared and appropriately briefed.
Scanning for global trends in financial regulation and ensuring the FMA understands the implications of any changes.
As a member of our External Relations team, you'll also apply your strengths and adaptability to support your colleagues during peak periods of government and industry engagement.
He kōrero mōu | About you
You're experienced in building trusted relationships across borders and/or agencies and have a strong understanding of how international engagement can shape domestic policy and regulation. You're at ease working under pressure, managing multiple priorities, and representing your organisation with professionalism and mana.
You'll need to be comfortable in an environment that is quite fluid - where your initiative and ability to find workable solutions will be key. At times we need to present at pace, so your time management and judgement will also be important for us.
You will ideally also bring:
Proven experience delivering international engagement programmes or cross-agency partnerships.
Strong knowledge of financial markets or a related regulatory environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Sound judgement, initiative, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
A relevant tertiary qualification in communications, strategy, finance, or similar.
You're not expected to have 100% of these skills. At FMA a growth mindset is at the heart of our culture, so if you have most of these things in your toolbox, we'd love to hear from you.
Ngāpainga | What we offer
We offer some great benefits including a 4% KiwiSaver contribution, health and life insurance cover, paid leave over the Christmas period, a generous $1,500 refer a friend bonus as well as an ability to swap public holiday leave with other days that mean more to you. Additionally, we have exceptional learning and development opportunities including access to leadership development, technical training, and external coaching.
At the FMA we're committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic self to work each day. We offer a range of wellness and social activities designed to support our people with aspects of their personal and professional lives and genuinely connect with their colleagues.
