About the role

We're seeking a strategic, commercially savvy Senior Procurement Specialist to join our Wellington team. You'll lead complex procurement projects, drive cost efficiencies, and act as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders. This role is all about optimising procurement processes, managing supplier relationships, and mentoring junior staff to build capability across the team. You'll play a key part in supporting business objectives and ensuring compliance with NZ Government Procurement Rules and organisational policies.

What we're looking for

  • 4+ years' experience in procurement, with a proven record of delivering significant projects to scope, time, and budget
  • Advanced negotiation, contract management, and supplier relationship management skills
  • Strong commercial acumen and strategic mindset
  • Proficient in procurement systems (ERP, e-procurement), MS Office, and data analysis tools
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to influence and engage at all levels
  • Experience in government or large enterprise procurement highly desirable
  • Motivated by continuous improvement and a willingness to help others

What you'll be doing

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies to optimise value, efficiency, and risk management
  • Lead complex sourcing projects, including end-to-end RFx processes and supplier selection
  • Analyse market trends, supplier performance, and spend data to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Mentor junior procurement staff, sharing expertise and fostering team capability
  • Oversee procurement processes from requisition to delivery, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Support general administration and contribute to wider business needs (yes, sometimes even packing boxes to meet a delivery deadline)
