At NovoLabs ), we are an award-winning New Zealand company operating on a global stage. We develop and manufacture next-generation UV disinfection systems to deliver solutions for hard to treat liquids and environmental challenges worldwide.

We're seeking an Automation Engineer to work with our engineering team to support the continued R&D and development of our control systems.

Key Responsibilities

Beckhoff TwinCAT code development:

  • Develop and refine PLC logic using structured text and ladder logic.
  • Contribute to the design of new control strategies for upcoming systems.

Version control & collaboration:

  • Manage repositories in GitLab (branching, commits, pull requests, reviews).
  • Maintain coding standards and documentation for scalability.

System integration:

  • Work with our communications contractor to implement industrial protocols.
  • Support SCADA integration and commissioning on end-user sites.
  • Collaborate with the workshop team to ensure seamless operation.

Hardware specification & selection:

  • Select and integrate hardware, with emphasis on Beckhoff I/O modules and IFM IO-Link devices.
  • Assist in building BOMs for new system designs.

R&D and innovation:

  • Play a key role in the development of new systems and prototypes.
  • Provide input into controls architecture, system safety, and future scalability.
Skills & Experience
  • 2 to 5 years experience in industrial automation or control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming (Beckhoff TwinCAT preferred; Siemens or Allen-Bradley acceptable with willingness to cross-train).
  • Strong knowledge of structured text, function blocks, and ladder logic.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, Modbus, etc.).
  • Familiarity with GitLab or similar version control systems.
  • Exposure to SCADA integration and commissioning.
  • Bonus: knowledge of IFM IO-Link, Beckhoff hardware ecosystem, or UV/water treatment applications.
