New Zealand Northern Health School Full time NZ$60,000 - NZ$80,000 per year

Permanent part-time (3 days per week)

Term time only – school holidays unpaid

Commencing Term 1, 2026

Are you a confident, energetic and experienced admin support person looking to use your skills, expertise and common sense in a friendly and supportive educational environment located in Starship hospital.

This is a role that will keep you busy and challenged so you need to be well-organised, able to multi-task and prepared to be flexible. Excellent computer skills across the Microsoft Office suite, an eye for detail and an ability to multi-task will see you succeed in this role. Equally important, we are looking for a friendly, communicative person who can greet visitors and students coming to the school unit.

This is a permanent position during term time only (school holidays are unpaid). Hours 22.5 per week negotiable (7.5 each day).

About Us

Northern Health School is a Ministry of Education-funded school that provides education and transition support for Year 0–14 students whose health conditions prevent them from attending their regular schools. We are a large, geographically dispersed school with sites across the North Island, from Gisborne and Taranaki to the far north (Kaitaia).

Key Attributes and Skills

We are looking for someone who brings:

Strong organisation skills

Empathy, warmth, and the ability to work collaboratively.

Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English.

Confidence and proficiency in digital tools including Microsoft Office suite.

A positive, 'can-do', team-focused attitude.

Additional Information

Appointment is subject to a police vetting process.

Northern Health School actively upholds the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and values inclusivity in all aspects of our work.

As a school, we contribute to a kaupapa that supports some of the most vulnerable young people in our education system. If you are passionate about education, enjoy working collaboratively, and thrive in a varied and meaningful role, we would love to hear from you.

Close date for application: 7 December 2025

Starship Unit

The Auckland region is serviced by several health school units and includes Starship and KidzFirst hospitals.

The Starship unit is located within Starship Children's Hospital which is part of the Auckland Hospital complex in Park Road, Auckland. NHS employs the teaching personnel and provides the associated resources, equipment and furniture. The hospital management is responsible for the building, fittings and maintenance.

All NHS staff working at the hospital are required to have the appropriate District Health Board accreditation and are subject to the various hospital administrative and safety processes and procedures as well as those of Northern Health School.

Teachers at Starship work with students while they are in hospital only but may also very occasionally assist with their transition back to their regular school. Education programmes are planned in association with staff of the student's regular school and may include Te Aho O Te Kura Pounamu (Correspondence School) subjects. An ILP is developed for each student in association with their school of enrolment, parents and others who may be involved in their wellbeing.

When a student is discharged from Starship but is not immediately returning to school, they may be transferred to an NHS community unit and supported by a community based teacher.

ICT is an integral part of Northern Health School's administration, programme development and student record activities. All staff in our units must be prepared to use ICT extensively in the course of their work.

Teachers are responsible to the unit leader and supported by teacher aides and administration staff.
