I'm working with a respected and growing advisory firm based in Whangarei, who are on the lookout for someone who's ready to step up into a role that is a real blend of operational leadership and client strategy. This firm have a strong reputation in the region for its people first culture, genuine relationships, and high quality work. This opportunity would suit a Senior Accountant or someone in a similar role who's ready for a challenging step. 

This firm have plans for long term growth and succession, and this role plays a big part in that. There's a pathway here toward directorship and even ownership for the right person. Equally, if you're currently running a small practice and looking to scale or merge, the door is open for that conversation too.

This is a hands on role that combines leading an accounting team, managing workflow and operations, and acting as a trusted advisor to a portfolio of business clients. You'll work closely with the Managing Director and be seen as a key leader in the firm from day one.

What you'll be doing day to day:

  • Managing workflow, deadlines, and team capacity across internal and outsourced teams
  • Building strong relationships with clients, supporting them with both compliance and commercial advice
  • Leading and mentoring a capable accounting team
  • Driving process improvements and efficiency, especially across outsourcing partnerships
  • Managing quality control and reviewing work in line with CPP obligations (if you're already a CPP, great. Otherwise, this firm is happy to support you toward that)
  • Supporting pricing, advisory service design, and contributing to wider business strategy
  • Supporting team development, hiring and retention alongside the leadership team

It's not just about what you do but how you do it. You'll need to be someone who's proactive, commercially sharp, and confident leading both people and conversations. You'll have a strong technical base but also be someone who's looking to make more of an impact in a leadership and client facing capacity.

What we're looking for:

  • CA qualified with solid public practice experience
  • Experience leading a team and managing client relationships
  • Comfortable juggling advisory and compliance delivery
  • A proactive mindset and solutions focused approach
  • Ideally a CPP holder or on the pathway to gaining
  • Strong communication skills and a focus on long term client outcomes
  • Experience with outsourcing and scalable delivery models is a plus
  • Commercially aware with an eye for growth opportunities
