Rei Kōtuku is a Wellington-based charity offering specialised paediatric palliative care to babies, children, teens, and their whānau in the Central Region.

We're a small team of medical, nursing, and psychology professionals, providing holistic, expert care to children with serious illnesses. Our work is guided by aroha, connection, and keeping tamariki and their whānau at the heart of everything we do.

About the Role 

We're looking for an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team and work alongside our current clinical nurse specialist and consultant. The role involves managing your own caseload, assessing and supporting children's physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, coordinating care, and working closely with other teams and agencies. Working with our clinical psychologist you will also provide grief and bereavement support to families and advocate for their needs, as required.

You'll be based in both hospital and community settings, and home visits across the Central Region are required.

The role is a fixed term contract to September 2026, FTE negotiable between 0.6 and 0.8FTE.

Contract salary is aligned with Health NZ senior nursing pay bands.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in paediatric nursing, ideally in a senior role. Palliative care mentorship will be provided.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work well in a team and independently.

  • Leadership skills and a commitment to continuous learning.

  • Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a desire to help reduce health disparities.

  • Proficiency in basic IT systems.
