As a member of the CHL

**Leadership Team, this role has shared accountability for**:

- Engaging with the Leadership team, the people of the

Waitaha-Canterbury and Te Tai o Poutini-West Coast districts and the wider Te
Whatu Ora-Health New Zealand systems to build trust, common understanding and
shared ownership.
- Growing the understanding and engagement of the CHL team with the
vision and goals of the Waitaha and Te Tai o Poutini Health systems
- Ensuring clarity of purpose, developing clear direction, plans,
alignment and priority and making sure all teams and roles know their
accountability and responsibility
- Building the capability of the Specialist Service Team function to
make it happen and the process capability to do it effectively and efficientlyThe

**Role**: Where you fit in
Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL), a leading medical diagnostic reference
laboratory in New Zealand with laboratory links and collaborative partners
nationally and internationally.
This is a key role where the Specialist Service Manager will lead a high
functioning group of departments within CHL, which include Specialist
Chemistry, Endocrinology and Steroids, Toxicology, Immunology and Protein
Chemistry. The Service Manager will form a critical link between these
functions and the senior CHL leadership team.

**Your skills will include**:

- Previous work experience in a medical

laboratory
- An understanding of the wider health sector
- Experience in working in collaborative models for the provision of
healthcare
- Managing staff
- Planning and analysis
- Quality improvement
- Preparing operational and business plans
- Preparing budgets and reportingExperience with change management, leading projects within a complex
system will be an advantage. Alongside the requirements to continue developing
the service, there is a high level of demand for effective decision making and
problem solving to ensure we reach our long term goals.
Working closely with the General Manager, Chief of Pathology, Clinical
Directors and Senior Leadership Team, you will have an appropriate tertiary
qualification together with demonstrated business and staff
leadership/management skills.

This position is a full time, permanent role.
