Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Fantastic opportunity to lead and influence the Treasury's work at the heart of government on the critical challenge of housing affordability

We are looking for an experienced policy professional to replace a departing principal analyst and lead the Housing and Urban Growth team's policy work on housing affordability.

The Team

The Housing and Urban Growth team works across the government system to help to address long-standing housing affordability and availability issues in New Zealand. Housing and urban growth has broad and deep social, economic, and fiscal implications - housing fundamentally affects all New Zealanders, especially the most vulnerable.

We work across a wide range of policy, budget and investment issues related to the Housing and Urban Development and Building and Construction portfolios. We're a supportive and fun team, with a wide variety of experience and backgrounds.

**This role will involve**:

- providing intellectual leadership to help drive forward Treasury's thinking on how New Zealand should address housing affordability and availability issues
- leading the Treasury's input into the WAI2570 Kaupapa enquiry into Māori housing, including working through any implications for funding/provision arrangements that result from the process
- working with a wide range of teams across the Treasury and government agencies to develop and drive the government's work on housing affordability
- regularly representing the Treasury in strategic discussions across agencies on the most critical issues
- shaping the direction of our advice leading work on the most complex areas
- providing support and mentorship to others in the team

About You

Prior experience in housing and urban growth policy and investment and/or relevant areas of economics would be advantageous in this role. You will also have:

- excellent policy and intellectual leadership together with highly developed communication, influencing and relationship management skills
- a demonstrated track record of combining these skills to have influence and impact
- experience leading people, complex projects, or policy processes; and a demonstrated ability in supporting, mentoring and developing others
- the ability to motivate and influence others, including by navigating complex or unclear governance and accountabilities across agencies
- an appetite to approach housing issues informed by the Crown's obligations as Treaty partner, and to use the Treasury's He Ara Waoira (Māori wellbeing framework)

What We Offer
- Challenging and stimulating work with a real opportunity to improve housing affordability and urban development outcomes
- A commitment to providing work and training opportunities that support your development and career aspirations
- An inclusive and diverse team
- Competitive remuneration and other employee benefits
- A positive work/non-work balance, flexible work options and 5 weeks of annual leave.
