- Kei te whakawhanake mātou i ā mātou mahi ake, i ngā ara hoki e whai hiko ai a Aotearoa, kei te kōkiri kia tukua te hiko tukurua, ā, kei te whakaputa i tētahi wheako matihiko mō ā mātou kiritaki kāore anō kia kitea i tēnei whenua._
- He tīma kotahi mano mātou nō ngā hau e whā, e ngākau nui ana ki ā mātou mahi, e aroha ana tētahi ki tētahi, e ako ngātahi ana, e whakapono tahi ana ki ā mātou tikanga ārahi: mā te manaaki kia toa, ka mana te katoa._
At Contact, we believe home is the most important place in the world. It's all part of our vision to leave Aotearoa better than we found it. We’re a power and broadband company, but we’re so much more than that. We are transforming the ways we mahi, and how Aotearoa is powered, leading the charge on renewable energy and digitising customer journeys in ways not yet seen here. A team of 1000+ from all walks of life who love what we do, look out for each other, and learn from one another every day, we’re stoked to be guided by our tikanga: we touch lives to make life better.
**Job Description**:
**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role***
We’re on a journey to decarbonise Aotearoa. The world is not the same as it was 25 years ago when we started out. We know better now, and we can do better. As a company we are an integral part of daily life in New Zealand and we’re acutely aware that our every action, good and bad, has a marked impact on the wellbeing of our communities — today and in the future. In recent years we’ve invested in building our renewable, flexible and reliable generation portfolio, which has helped us to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions from generation by 33% since 2018, but that’s just the start.
We welcomed a new CEO in 2020 and have been on a major growth trajectory since. Under Mike’s warm, authentic leadership, we’ve been empowered to innovate and transform like never before. He’s focused on his kids, his mokopuna, and the world we’re going to leave for them, and that spirit lives and breathes throughout Contact.
We have a 15-strong Sustainability team now, soon to be 22. Lots has changed here quickly, even just in the time since our new Head of Sustainability joined in February. We’ve refreshed our ESG strategy. There have been regulatory changes. Societal expectations have shifted. Our new developments and transformed ways of working have led to major company growth. This prompted a thoughtful redesign of organisational structure - and here we are, with **seven **new Sustainability roles, this one at the top of the bunch.
Reporting direct to the Head of Sustainability, as Sustainability & Community Manager you’ll help develop and lead the delivery of sustainability strategy, keep Contact aligned with the expectations of our shareholders, lead a team implementing sustainability initiatives and community relationships, and embed a culture that delivers positive impact across a range of environmental, cultural, and social issues. We have some big initiatives already underway that you’ll play a key role in (like decarbonisation), but there’s a bunch of new stuff for you to dream up and get stuck into, too. You’ll be coming into a context where we have good foundations and are doing good stuff, but with real appetite throughout the business to maximise and have a bigger impact.
This isn’t a job where you’ll paint by numbers. We need thinkers and doers who can convince others, get projects funded and gain traction quickly. You’ll bring thought leadership, mana, and influence as a strategic executer. Our Sustainability whānau are technically good at what they do and great people too.
**Qualifications**:
**Ko wai koe | About you**
With plenty of mahi under your belt in sustainability, environment, resource management, social impact, or other related areas, you’ll have a robust understanding of corporate sustainability (including ESG reporting frameworks) and some great yarns to share about positive change you’ve effected elsewhere. If you’ve led teams before, awesome, but management experience isn’t strictly necessary - we know leadership comes in all shapes and forms and we’re more interested in how you’ve **mentored **than managed.
Analytical by nature, you’ll bring technical and science-based experience that affords you the ability to speak our engineers’ language and understand their space. You might even be an engineer yourself who’s found your way to sustainability in recent years or is looking for a way in.
This role will have core cross-functional relationships, so you’ll also need to be a superb communicator; a th
