Waikato, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

**Kotahi anō te kaupapa**: ko te oranga o te iwi (There is only one purpose to our work: the wellness and wellbeing of people)
Hōkai Rangi is Ara Poutama Aotearoa's organisational strategy. A key focus of Hōkai Rangi is the humanising and healing of the people in our care. Ara Poutama Aotearoa staff focus on having relationships with the people in our care, and their whānau, based on manaaki and contribute positively to their wellbeing. This includes supporting individuals to desist from offending and to develop new life paths that further aid their future wellbeing, and that of their whanau.
Mō te tūnga | About the role
We are looking for Registered Psychologists to join our passionate and supportive teams across the three Psychologists' offices in the Waikato. Te Pokaapu (Hamilton Hub) Psychological Services teams are staffed with approximately 35 registered psychologists and provide a highly collegial, supportive and professional environment. The Hamilton teams offer flexible working, regular peer supervision, case consultation and training/team building events. Our three teams work closely together in the Waikato region. We also endeavour to work collectively with other Psychologist Offices to ensure we provide the best services for our clients, as well as to stay connected with our colleagues across NZ.
Two teams (Hamilton North and Hamilton South) are based at Te Pokaapu Hamilton Hub in the Central Business District (CBD). We spend our time working within the prison context as well as Community Corrections Services Hamilton, Kirikiriroa. Our teams undertake a broad range of clinical tasks including assessment, group and individual therapy with men, women and young adults (under 25) as well as case consultation with relevant stakeholders. As such, we regularly work with people who experience a complex array of challenges but are often motivated for change and engage positively in the therapeutic process. You will receive comprehensive training and regular supervision to excel in your assessments and interventions, with opportunities to provide Expert Witness reports and testimony to the courts. There is opportunity to provide supervision to other psychologists and staff within the Department.
The Hamilton South team travels to local prison Waikeria. The prison is currently undergoing significant expansion providing ultra-modern facilities for the people in our care and for staff. The facility will include purpose-built therapy rooms co-designed with local mana whenua to ensure aesthetically pleasing and safe therapeutic spaces conducive to change and to operate from a therapeutic community perspective. The expansion includes a new 100-bed mental health facility. Waikeria is also home to Te Ao Marama (Kaupapa Maori Therapeutic Unit) and an intensive Special Treatment Unit.
The Hamilton North team travels to Spring Hill Corrections Facility, home to a Pacifica Focus Unit, an intensive Special Treatment Unit and an onsite community that supports men with high and complex needs. The Hamilton North team also provides support for group therapy sessions in the community.
We may also have opportunities in our Tai Aroha team. Working at Tai Aroha is a unique and rare opportunity for a Psychologist to work in a world class community-based Special Treatment Unit (STU) that focuses on violence prevention. The unit provides intensive treatment for convicted males on Home Detention sentences who are motivated to a life free of violence and reintegrate in a positive way with their community and families. The position is based at the Tai Aroha STU in central Hamilton and has a strong Tikanga Maori focus. The unit offers therapy and reintegration support for the residents. For psychologists, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop your cognitive-behavioural group treatment skills, use your clinical expertise, provide professional leadership, and make a positive impact. This professional role calls for someone who:

- Has a desire to empower people to make positive changes in their lives.
- Has experience in clinical assessment, treatment and psychometric testing.
- Has a high level of cultural responsiveness.
- Has experience in group facilitation (preferred but not essential).

We are looking for registered psychologists (in the clinical/counselling, forensics or general scopes of practice) who:

- Are reliable and committed to best practice approaches
- Have strong problem solving and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Work well in collaborative professional environments
- Are passionate about psychological practice
- Are flexible, adaptable and resilient
- Have a commitment to Te Ao Māori/Tikanga Māori, bi-cultural practices, and contributing to the outcomes of Hōkai Rangi
- Have a minimum of a Masters degree in Psychology.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
The salary range for the role is $76,860 - $104,571 (Mid) - $125,485. We may also offer flexible and/or part-time options for working hours. Appointment
