**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

We have a great opportunity to join our regional team as **Senior Advisor Public Health Policy and Equity**. This is a new permanent and full-time role within the Planning, Policy and Performance Team, Strategy and Operations.

The primary organisational impact of the position is to provide of high-quality policy advice and successfully lead policy analysis and development across a broad range of areas to contribute to the strategic health outcomes of Pae Ora (Healthy Futures).

This will include demonstrating an in-depth understanding of the wider determinants of health and a focus on reducing inequities.

**Mōu | About you**

You are someone with at least five years' working in health, local government or public sector with experience in facilitating strategic and operational policy development.

You are able to provide expert advice and analysis across all policy activities with a clear focus on equity, in a range of formats for a range of audiences, to inform decision-making.

**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
- A minimum of five years working in health, local government or public sector policy.
- A relevant qualification, preferably in a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- An in-depth understanding of the wider determinants of health and a focus on reducing inequities.
- Leadership experience, including having designed and managed programmes of work/projects and resources.
- Demonstrable understanding and experience working in partnership with Māori, Pacific peoples and/or Tāngata Whaikaha | Disabled people.
- Demonstrable understanding of, and commitment to, the specific relationship under Te Tiriti, and Health NZ's role in improving outcomes for iwi and Māori communities.
- Strong writing and analytical skills combined with an ability to synthesise information, and to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely with a range of audiences.
- A strong understanding in the machinery of government.
