**Job Description**:
**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role**

The Generation Optimisation Manager plays a key role in supporting the execution of Contact’s strategy. They lead an Optimisation team tasked with identifying optimisation opportunities across the Generation & Trading (G&T) business. Day-to-day the team analyses and develops optimisation changes to Contact’s business processes and systems. The end goal is to not only improve operational efficiencies, quality and service but also profitability.

Historically our Optimisation team have mainly focused on optimising our geothermal generation. Now that the team have a good grasp on this, we want to pay closer attention to optimising our hydro and thermal generation. This will allow us to have a holistic view and optimise generation enterprise wide.

It will be your job to ensure the team is continuously evaluating and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of Contact’s generation business’s processes and systems. Plant performance will need to be predicted and then monitored against those predictions. Any variations will be investigated and changes will be implemented to either improve performance or update predictive models.

These improvements will have a short and long term focus. They will enhance efficient operation and full life cycle asset management, ensuring sustainability, regulatory compliance and risks are reduced, as well as the maintenance of safety margins and controls have been considered. In a nutshell, it will be up to you to ensure your team appropriately plan, design, and implement changes required to realise business opportunities.

This position reports to our Head of Projects and Performance and will have a seat on the Leadership team.

**Qualifications**:

This is your chance to make a difference, it is an existing role but it is somewhat a blank canvas now that we are expanding our optimisation function across all of G&T.

Ideally, you will have a relevant tertiary/professional qualification (or equivalent), preferably in engineering or related sciences or Trade. You will have prior experience working in operational leadership roles, particularly relating to plant optimisation and maintenance and operational issues. Most importantly, we’re after someone with a fresh pair of eyes and perspective. You don’t necessary have to come from the energy sector, we’ll consider different industries.

You will be an experienced leader who thrives in a fast paced, dynamic environment where no day is the same. You have a commercial mindset and understand the importance of linking business goals to the company strategy.
