- Use your sharp mind and keen analytical skills in crucial and meaningful mahi
**Mō mātou | About us**:
He Pou a Rangi | The Climate Change Commission (the Commission) is an Independent Crown Entity established under the Climate Change Response Act 2002.
We provide independent, expert advice to the Government of Aotearoa on both mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change, and we monitor and review the Government's progress towards its emissions reduction and adaptation goals. The Commission plays a key role in developing and implementing clear and stable climate change policies in Aotearoa.
In the past three years we've provided advice on the first three emissions budgets, the direction of the emissions reduction plan, agricultural emissions pricing, and NZ Emissions Trading Scheme settings. We are now expanding our work programme. More details can be found here: Our upcoming work » Climate Change Commission (climatecommission.govt.nz)
**Ngā Tūnga | The Roles**:
The Commission has an important role in advising the Government of the day on the emissions reductions pathway for Aotearoa, and to monitor and report on Aotearoa's short and long-term progress in addressing climate change. That includes advising on, and monitoring progress towards meeting emissions budgets, emissions reduction plans and the 2050 target, as well as reporting on progress with adaptation. The Commission's approach needs to reflect Aotearoa's own unique circumstances, learning from our journey so far and weaving in international experiences and lessons.
These roles are based in the Emissions Budget team, reporting to the Team Manager-Emissions Budgets. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Commission's next advice on pathways to emissions reduction. Ideally, you would have experience working on climate change or another system-level topic, using a range of quantitative and qualitative analytical techniques (including modelling), and be comfortable working with data. Engagement with stakeholders, both inside and outside Government, will be important to ensure the design and delivery of the Commission's products and advice are robust and fit for purpose.
In one of these roles, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to the wider success of the Commission. You'll lead or contribute to technical and policy analysis, working closely with others in your team and collaborate across the Commission to ensure the work has the greatest impact. Your work will involve navigating complex issues, developing new frameworks and approaches, managing relationships, and engaging with stakeholders as the Commission's advice is developed.
**Mō ēnei tūranga mahi | The roles will involve**:
- Framing and communicating advice in a way that recognises the needs and concerns of the audience.
- Making sound, timely decisions that keep the organisation and work moving forward.
- Leading and contributing to multiple pieces of work concurrently.
- Supporting other Commission staff and contributing to the expert analysis provided to the Board, taking on feedback, and making enhancements to enable effective decision making.
- Engaging with iwi/Māori in a manner that upholds Tikanga and recognises the Crown - Māori partnership under the Treaty of Waitangi.
**Ō pūmanawa | About you**:
- Strong knowledge and experience of a range of research, evidence and analytical methods, including emerging and innovative approaches and frameworks.
- Sound judgement and awareness of the context within which advice is formulated and communicated
- Strong logic and reasoning skills to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
- Highly developed communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Ao Māori and experience engaging with Iwi/Māori
- An understanding of government processes, systems and tools
- A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably post-graduate or equivalent experience
A key priority for the Commission is Te Ao Māori. This means we work with our Treaty partner and grow our capability and capacity to accurately reflect Māori views and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in our work.
