Environmental Health Officer
2 weeks ago
**Full-time permanent role**
There’s something great about living and working in Masterton. We can’t tell if it’s the Tararua Ranges that impress our view. Maybe it’s the award-winning parks that provide acres of greenspace right in the heart of town (or the life-style blocks just out of town)? Maybe it’s the commute, or should we say, lack of (no traffic lights here).
It’s like getting a double shot of coffee in the morning when you live here and when you work with Masterton District Council (MDC) to create and support the great space that is called Masterton. Here at MDC we are looking for another fantastic person to complement our Environmental Services Team in the role of Environmental Health Officer.
**The role**
In this challenging and fast paced role your primary focus will be to ensure legislative requirements are being met in food premises and other businesses operating under a health licence. You will also be responding to environmental health service requests to maintain, protect and improve the health, safety and wellbeing of our community.
Ideally, we are looking for a qualified Environmental Health Officer with a National Diploma in Environmental Health Science (NZ) or an equivalent relevant tertiary qualification in accordance with the Environmental Health Officers Qualifications Regulations 1992, but consideration may be given to someone currently studying Environmental Health.
With your positive and approachable attitude, you will quickly build strong relationships as you work closely with local contractors, providers and community groups.
**The key skills and experiences we are looking for include**:
- Working knowledge of the legislation enforced by environmental health professionals;
- Experience in premises inspections, environmental health monitoring, auditing and verification of food control plans;
- Strong customer service focus;
- Relationship management skills, including negotiation and diplomacy to achieve compliance outcomes;
- Research and report writing skills;
- Sound reasoning and problem-solving ability;
- Effective skills in planning and managing own workload with the ability to prioritise effectively.
Further information about the role and Council can be found in the **position description (PDF, 473KB)** and our **website**. If these sources don’t answer your query, please call Terri Mulligan on 027 4888 822
**What we offer**
At MDC we look after our people. Benefits for Council staff include:
- Five weeks’ annual leave
- Medical insurance
- Free parking
- Developmental opportunities
- An active social club
You will know that you are making a positive contribution to our amazing community
