**Mō te tūnga | About the role**:
Vanushi Walters MP is looking for a Research Advisor to provide research and advice. You need to be someone who’s inspired by compiling research from different sources, including current or past legislation, academic articles, media releases and the Parliament library. You may also be involved in the development of policy, depending on the needs of the MP, and in liaison with the relevant Leader’s Office.
Based in Auckland for 8 hours per week, you’ll be working to support the machinery of Aotearoa New Zealand’s democracy.
**Tō kete | What you will bring to the role**:
We want to speak with people who can clearly demonstrate their passion for analysing data to provide meaningful and tangible insights. You’ll be required to think about issues and make recommendations through considering precedents, referenced research or other solutions. This means you’ll need to have proven ability to research, understand, analyse and communicate complex issues in everyday language, for difference audiences.
Additionally, knowledge of legislation and Parliamentary processes is desirable. This role will have a focus on Foreign Affairs related work.
**Ngā haepapa | Responsibilities**:
- Support the development of policy and information gathering to provide research and advice to the MP and others in the MP’s office(s).
- Compile research from different sources, including current or past legislation, academic articles, media releases, and the Parliamentary Library.
- Summarise information and contribute to fit-for-purpose content creation, for speeches, public or stakeholder meetings, social media responses, and MP’s advocacy for change or action on local issues.
- Contribute to policy development by compiling reports, analysing and reviewing submissions, monitoring and reporting on trends within the MP’s portfolio(s) and/or areas of interest, and in liaison with the relevant Political Party (Leader’s) Office employees.
- Assemble and collate data and compile statistics.
- Monitor and summarise information to ensure the MP is well briefed and kept up to date in their portfolio(s) and/or areas of interest.

The pay band for the role starts at $72,100 per annum and appointments will be based on skills and experience. All employees who work for MPs are employed on an ‘events based’ agreement, with your employment linked to your MP. This role is based in Auckland for 8 hours per week.
