**The Role and Opportunity**
- At AgResearch, we use science to enhance the value, productivity, and profitability of New Zealand’s pastoral, agri-food, and agri-technology sector. Our research contributes to economic growth and beneficial environmental and social outcomes for Aoteaora New Zealand. We develop future-focused solutions generated from both mātauranga Māori and science and we recognise and value the knowledge Māori bring to research collaborations.
- We’re looking for a communications and marketing advisor, who specialises in content creation, to help us tell our science stories across various channels including social media, website, intranet, corporate reporting, brochureware, presentations, and other AgResearch collateral.
- This is a creative storytelling role that balances visuals and words for external and internal audiences, choosing the best way to communicate AgResearch’s science for maximum impact. It’s a role full of variety. You’ll work closely with our scientists to translate hard-to-understand science into compelling visuals, animations, and/or science explainers. You’ll develop social media content, refine presentations, assist with the creative development of brochureware and other corporate collateral. And you’ll also support our internal communications by drafting the odd story from time to time and polishing and publishing supplied content to our intranet.
**About you**
- You probably describe yourself as a natural creative and you love telling stories with strong visuals. Taking someone’s dry data set and turning it into a meaningful infographic is your idea of a good time. You also get a great deal of satisfaction from making a document or presentation look modern, professional and on-brand. Equally, you love the challenge of getting to the heart of complexity to develop a clear, compelling, visual explainer.
- You’ve most likely worked in a busy comms and marketing team before and you’ve learned the value of collaborating and asking loads of questions at the start before then taking an idea and running with it to deliver a quality output by the deadline.
- You might have experience working within science, agriculture, farming, or the primary industries. If not, then you at least have a genuine interest in these areas and you’re willing to learn. Writing may not be your first choice, but when you need to, you can get the job done plainly and clearly.
- This role will suit someone with strong creative and relationship skills combined with a high achievement focus - someone who is energised by the chance to work with a Crown Research Institute that’s doing the science contributing to solving some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s biggest issues.
**Your ideal background**
- At least 2 - 3 years' relevant experience.
- Strong capability in PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop is essential.
- An understanding of, or genuine interest in agriculture, agri-tech, farming, the primary sector and/or life sciences.
- Toi Māori, Māori graphic design, and/or Māori communications experience would be very welcome.
- Experience using animation tools, AI-generative tools, and/or a keenness to learn and develop in these areas.
