**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**

As the Product Owner - Data Governance, you will own and drive the delivery of data governance products, roadmaps and outcomes. You will be responsible for identifying opportunities to strengthen enterprise data governance, prioritising work, and ensuring data policies, processes and tools meet organisational needs and regulatory obligations.

You will work closely with stakeholders across the business and technical teams to ensure Council's data is well-managed, trusted and secure - supporting the use of data as a strategic asset across Auckland Council.

**He kōrero mōu: About you**

You are a data governance professional with experience operating as a Product Owner or in a leadership role focused on data quality, risk, and stewardship. You are confident translating business needs into product outcomes and working within agile delivery models.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- In-depth understanding of data governance frameworks, policies and best practices, including ownership and stewardship models.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise data management, including mastering, lineage, protection, and “source of truth” management.
- Experience managing data governance-related products or tools (e.g. Informatica, Atlan, Collibra, Alation) and cloud-based environments.
- Understanding of data maturity models and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders across varying levels of data capability.
- Awareness of common data risks and their organisational impacts, including data loss, privacy breaches, and regulatory non-compliance.
- Proven experience developing and managing product backlogs and roadmaps, balancing customer needs with organisational data risk priorities.
- Familiarity with data privacy and compliance regulations such as GDPR, the NZ Privacy Act, and their implications for data governance.
- Understanding of content and document governance, including archiving, digitisation, and tools such as SharePoint, OpenText, or Microsoft Purview.
- Familiarity with the DAMA DMBOK framework is desirable (accreditation not essential).
- Strong stakeholder engagement and vendor relationship management skills.
