Data Lead Analytics

The Data Lead, Analytics is overall responsible for leading and managing a team of data scientists and analysts to develop and implement data-driven solutions for the organisation. This includes both development of in-house talent and management of vendor partner relationship to meet required reporting and data science deliverables.

**The Role**:

- Deliver planning, insights and observations to support high quality observability and decisioning at national level
- Collaborate with stakeholders including Councils, Government and other interested parties to support translation of business needs into data action, identifying and prioritizing opportunities to leverage data and deliver collective value
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the organization's data ecosystem, including data sources, data standards, data quality, and data infrastructure
- Develop and maintain data models, data products, algorithms, MLOps pipelines and statistical analyses to support business objectives
- Provide technical advice and support on reporting and data science architectural solutions
- Develop and implement data analytics strategies and solutions that align with programme goals
- Design and implement data visualization tools and dashboards to communicate insights and findings to stakeholders
- Provide governance on data analytics tools, dashboards and reports
- Provide data science support for self-service, including modelling and automation
- Deliver appropriate tools and data support for insights and reporting to meet operational requirements across domains.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of data analytics solutions and make recommendations for improvements
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members
- Actively encourage and inclusive environment with broad community engagement and participation in open/shared data activities, solving big data problems together and sharing great ideas
- Ensure that data-driven solutions are of high quality, documented, shareable, scalable, reliable, and maintainable
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in reporting and analytics, data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence
- Manage the performance of the reporting and data science team, including goal setting, performance reviews, and career development

**Knowledge and skills**:

- Relevant, recent experience within a similar role as part of a large, fast paced, complex transformation programme
- Experience working within the NZ government sector (preferred)
- Experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders and able to demonstrate a successful track record in facilitating engagement
- Proven experience communicating complex topics with both technical and business audiences in prior roles
- Experience leading technical teams under a matrix management model to deliver results
- Possess the ability to mentor, coach, and support others in the delivery of the work

- Up-to-date knowledge of current trends and technologies in data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence
- Understanding of the machinery of NZ government and related processes and procedures
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Strong analytical skills, able to effectively present insights to a range of audiences
