You'll be part of the Organisational Strategy and Performance Branch of Te Tari Taiwhenua (Internal Affairs); a small branch with a big job. We provide direction, oversight, and leadership across the Department on strategic planning and performance, legal services and governance, risk and assurance matters.You will support the governance manager, act as a mentor to two senior advisors playing a key role in providing stewardship and support of the internal governance system. The team is operating well, delivering a high-quality work programme and providing advisory services, and with the addition of a principal advisor we are looking for someone who can help us improve our effectiveness even further.
The role involves a variety of advisory and support functions, including working with Chairs and Deputy Chairs (tiers 2 and 3) to develop committee work programmes, compiling agendas, minuting meetings, and engaging across the organisation in support of our governance framework. It also supports the continuous improvement of the overall system, identifying, recommending and implementing enhancements.

**To be successful in this role, you will**:

- Have an eye for detail supported by a high standard of written advice* Exercise sound judgement and tact in engaging with a range of stakeholders including the Department's senior leaders* Have experience building and maintaining strong and effective working relationships
- Be comfortable and enjoy juggling competing deadlines and priorities* Be a team player and enjoy collaborating with others to deliver results
Prior experience in a principal role and providing governance support to committees or teams is ideal, but not essential. A can-do attitude, being able to strategically connect and leverage areas of work to elevate effectiveness whilst maintaining a pragmatic outlook are key.
