We have a full-time permanent (min. 40 hour/week) position for a Senior Technician to join our Forensic Biology laboratory, based at our Mount Albert Science Centre in Auckland.

**In this role, you**:

- Will be responsible for maintaining stock levels of reagents and consumables including purchasing.
- May supervise laboratory assistants, technicians in training or students.
- Perform technical assistance to the Forensic Scientists in the examination of biological samples for forensic purposes to a specific standard. This is to be focused on the extraction, quantitation, amplification, and analysis of DNA from crime scene/casework, databank and reference samples.
- Assist with the day-to-day running of the DNA Databank and Reference and/or the Casework Laboratory workstream.
- Provide support and backup to other team members delivering administrative and laboratory assistance.
- Oversight of consumable and reagent levels and purchasing.
- Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- May be required to provide technical assistance to the forensic sequencing facility, forensic genomics, and RNA research groups.

**To be successful in this role you will have**:

- Previous experience with Molecular Biology techniques, including PCR.
- Appreciation of sound laboratory practice including an appreciation of the importance of the development of standard operating procedures.
- Computer literacy.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practice, biological and chemical hazards.
- Integrity and high ethical standards.

The salary range is $74,327 - $80,353.
