**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**
The Auckland wide unit provides a central role supporting the existing Auckland Unitary Plan as well as preparing for its review. The unit is made up of a range of roles including geospatial specialists, planners, planning technicians and programme management support.
As one of the three team leaders in the unit, you will inspire, support and develop a team of seven planners and principal planners to build their capability and encourage a great team culture. You will manage staff working through both significant changes to the existing Auckland Unitary Plan as well as preparing the way forward towards the review of the Auckland Unitary Plan.
Day to day you can expect to ensure that your team provides:
- Policy advice in support of the review of Auckland Unitary Plan schedules
- Policy advice into major changes to the Auckland Unitary Plan associated with implementing national directions and RMA reform
- Scoping and recommending policy approaches across both emerging land use planning issues and issues not currently addressed within the coastal marine area
Your team works across the Planning and Resource Consents Department, with Council Controlled Organisations, Local Boards, Mana Whenua and other parts of the council.

You are an experienced people leader demonstrating your capability in building people’s capacity, lifting performance and engagement.
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Deliver quality plans and projects that support growth, protect Auckland’s environment and heritage and create great places for Aucklanders
- Be armed with strong understanding of the Resource Management and Local Government Act
- Have solid policy analysis and research skills
- Be experienced in plan drafting
- Have a clear understanding of the significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
