**About the role**

Here is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional from an allied health or nursing background, who is looking for a challenging and rewarding role with Starship Community.

We are seeking an experienced; motivated and energetic professional, experienced with working with children and their families, to join the Starship Community service as an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Developmental Coordinator. This role is a community based, direct client contact role, which interacts with Starship Community Service and Starship Developmental and General Paediatricians at Te Toka Tumai Auckland. The role aligns to the Rautaki strategy of Starship Child Health to deliver the obligation to protect the whakapapa of children and their families, supporting in a mokopuna-centric, whānau focused and whānau-led approach. Service delivery is guided by the Enabling Good Lives (EGL) principles.

The primary purpose of the role is to:

- To respond to the developmental coordination needs of families when their child is referred with a presentation of a diagnosed developmental delay, features of, or have potential for receiving a diagnosis of Autism-Takiwātanga.
- To provide culturally responsive support for families in the form of identifying individual needs, sharing information about their child’s presentation/diagnosis in a format which supports family understanding. This may include information and/or referrals for access Te Toka Tumai Auckland services and external community support agencies.
- To work in partnership with families to develop a realistic plan which aligns with family priorities and reflects ordinary life outcomes.

**About the Team**

Starship Community is part of Starship Child Health and provides interdisciplinary care and cultural support to children; young people, their families and whānau living within the Auckland DHB area. A part of the Starship Child Health directorate, our nursing; allied health and technical staff are responsible for delivering health care services to children; young people, and whānau in their home; school and community settings.

Getting to know our communities, working closely with them, removing inequities and barriers to health care for priority populations, are key drivers for us each day.

**About you**

To succeed in this role, you will have:

- A current Allied Health or Nursing, New Zealand Annual Practicing Certificate
- A clean and full New Zealand driving license
- Relevant clinical experience in health and/or disability sectors
- Maturity demonstrated by a range of life skills related to the care and support of children and their families
- Computing skills, especially Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word programmes
- Knowledge of disability, in particular Autism Spectrum Disorder-Takiwātanga
- Experience of working with Paediatric disability
