Senior / Legal Counsel (Regulatory)

Two interesting and challenging in-house roles for both a senior legal counsel and legal counsel, where you will have the opportunity to do amazing, challenging, and varied work with the support of a newly appointed leader who is committed to building a team environment in which you can thrive.

You will be supported to grow, develop, and be challenged (and be allowed to safely make mistakes) in a specialty of law that you are passionate about.

**The work**

The primary focus of these roles will be to provide regulatory legal advice to the organisation in a range of areas including district plan review, earthquake prone buildings, resource management planning and compliance, building consents and compliance, bylaws, and public health issues.

You will also:

- Identify legal, organisational, and reputational risks and provide solutions focused advice.
- Instruct and work closely with external legal service providers as necessary.
- Assist with the management of response to litigation involving the organisation.
- Be enabled to pursue learning and professional development opportunities.

**About you**

First and foremost, you will have a desire to join a busy, dynamic and growing in-house legal team, with an interest in doing work that makes a difference and a desire to grow your regulatory knowledge and experience. It would also be great if you were familiar with court processes, litigation, and enforcement - however this is not essential. In addition to this:
As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will:

- have at least 5 years PQE, ideally including some in-house public sector experience
- understand regulatory frameworks and what good public decision-making looks like
- thrive in uncertain and complex environments
- have advanced statutory interpretation skills
- have a demonstrated ability to provide strategic, solutions focused legal advice

As a Legal Counsel, you will:

- have 1-3 years PQE, preferably with some resource management or related experience
- be interested in pursuing a regulatory career pathway
- be curious and have an enquiring mind
- have the initiative to problem solve while also being comfortable to ask for support
- have a demonstrated ability to provide solutions focused legal advice
