The Food Compliance and Response Directorate, within New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS) at MPI is looking for a Principal Adviser, Health, Safety and Wellbeing with significant experience in engaging stakeholders and providing analysis and advice on health and safety matters.
The Principal Adviser role will co-ordinate the NZFS Health Safety and Wellbeing directorate work programmes and will be responsible for developing and leading a consistent approach to operational management of health and safety that is effective and sustainable across the directorate.
This is a great opportunity to bring your passion and enthusiasm for Health Safety and Wellbeing to a role that will focus on leadership, by taking a systematic approach to identifying and managing risk, by involving managers and teams in creating and implementing safe systems of work to provide injury-free work environments.

Mōu - About You
- A tertiary qualification in occupational safety and health or significant study towards a qualification or a qualification in a related discipline.
- Registration with the Health and Safety Association of New Zealand (HASANZ) and/or registered member of a HASANZ member organisation.
- A minimum of 7 years in occupational health and safety and/or relevant professional role
- An in-depth understanding of occupational health and safety including legislation and regulations, standards and codes of compliance.
- Proven experience in the development and delivery of health and safety training and educational programmes.
- Significant experience in building, maintaining, and enhancing relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders to consult, cooperate and coordinate on health and safety matters and lead to improve work processes involving others.
- Experience that involves provision of advice, analysis and engagement with decision-makers.
- High level analytical and evaluation skills
- The ability to be innovative, forward thinking and committed to continuous improvement.
- Proven ability to engage, work with, and influence senior leaders.

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team
With offices around the country including Auckland, Napier, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch you will be working alongside Food Compliance Officers and Senior Food Compliance Officers, Regional and National Managers located all around New Zealand.
You'll also be working with our Readiness and Response team based in Wellington. This team is often the front runner in implementing large scale work around the country, responding to urgent issues such as the Gisborne floods. These teams spend time out in the field, visiting with food businesses around the country to address issues and help ensure that food is safe for New Zealanders to eat. We need to look after our team so they can do their mahi safely.

- most preferably a New Zealand citizen, who has resided continuously in New Zealand for at least the last five (5) years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five (5) years: either Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
