Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga - The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) leads Aotearoa - New Zealand's housing and urban development work programme.

Mō te tūnga | About the role
Part of being a great employer is having a great place to work, where health, safety and wellbeing are of the highest importance. The safety and wellbeing of people forms a natural part of our culture at Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga.
This is a really important role for us, and is core to why our people love coming to work. You will have the opportunity to make your mark and have some real impact
You will focus on developing and delivering the systems, frameworks and processes to ensure the Ministry maintains a healthy and safe working environment. This includes providing expertise to help the Ministry build a thriving workplace community, and to maintain a safe and positive workplace culture through the design and implementation of a fit-for-purpose health, safety and wellbeing strategy, work programme, and interventions.
You will also have an external focus to ensure the Ministry is working effectively with other organisations to meet its legislative health and safety responsibilities. The Ministry funds and contracts a number of accommodation and service providers (persons conducting business undertakings (PCBUs). This requires the Ministry to take a risk and assurance approach in relation to PCBU responsibilities and relationships.

Ō wheako, ō pukenga | About you
You will have extensive experience in strategic and operational health, safety and wellbeing management and will be comfortable with the hands-on requirements that come from a sole charge position.
With strong legislative and technical expertise and knowledge relating to health, safety and wellbeing, you will have good judgement around what's important, and you will be experienced in the design and delivery of systems and approaches that are fit-for-purpose and can flex as the organisation evolves.
Given our unique environment and relationship with accommodation and service providers, you will have a comprehensive understanding of risk management approaches in relation to PCBUs, with knowledge of complex contractual relationships and overlapping duties. You will also bring strong relationship and stakeholder partnering capabilities and a collaborative approach to your work.
Ideally from a property or housing background, you will instinctively use data and insights to inform your work programme management, and to make evidence-based decisions and recommendations around health, safety and wellbeing.

Mō mātou | About us
Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga reflects the intention of ‘the foundation for a treasured home'. The name comes from the Māori whakatauki (proverb) ‘he kura kāinga e hokia, he kura tangata e kore e hokia', - ‘a treasured home will endure, not so a treasured person'. It carries with it a strong connection to our purpose: he kāinga ora, he hapori ora - thriving communities where everyone has a place to call home. The importance of ensuring the wellbeing of people within the home, and our connection with the land - acknowledges the generations of people who have always called this place ‘home' - and affirms our commitment to delivering for future generations of New Zealanders.
