Mō te tūnga | About the role This Principal Advisor role has an external focus to ensure the Ministry is working effectively with other organisations to meet its legislative health and safety responsibilities, particularly its persons conducting business undertakings (PCBUs) obligations. The Ministry has been developing its approach to identifying and managing its PCBU responsibilities and obligations, we are looking for a Principal H&S Advisor to help us implement our approach across the various PCBU relationships we have. You will proactively navigate external PCBU health and safety risks, issues and opportunities, providing expert advice and strategic thought leadership to the Ministry in health and safety management. With responsibility for managing the external PCBU health and safety work programme, you will work with across the organisation and with external stakeholders to implement health and safety frameworks, policies, processes and interventions that safeguard the Ministry and enable it to meet its external PCBU health and safety obligations. Ō wheako, ō pukenga | About you You will have extensive experience in strategic and operational health and safety management. Ideally you will have a property, construction or housing background, with knowledge of building and property legislation and property management practices from a health and safety perspective e.g., demolition, asbestos removal. Given our unique environment and relationship with accommodation and service providers, it is essential that you have a comprehensive understanding of practical risk management approaches in relation to PCBUs, with knowledge of complex contractual relationships and overlapping duties. You will bring strong relationship and stakeholder partnering capabilities and a collaborative approach to your work. With strong legislative and technical expertise and knowledge, you will have good judgement around what's important, and you will be experienced in the design and delivery of health and safety systems and approaches that are fit-for-purpose. You will be comfortable managing your work programme, and you will instinctively use data and insights to inform organisational decision making.
