Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has a crucial role to play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for climate change effects. - Reducing reliance on cars and supporting people to walk, cycle and use Public Transport
- Rapidly adopting low emission vehicles and fuels
- Supporting a sustainable driver workforce
- Working with local authorities to make public transport more affordable, with a particular focus on low-income users and manage the transition to a zero-emission public transport bus fleet
- Implementing a new framework for the procurement and delivery of public transport

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunities' The Public Transport team brings expertise to support delivery and implement change across the sector to build a sustainable and effective public transport network. With huge changes from central government on climate response we need driven and organised people who can own and embrace change as we get ready to think and work differently. You will be experienced in supporting and delivering strategic advice and support critical programmes of work that will involve significant changes to how we operate as well as our role in the transport sector. We are looking for people who have expertise addressing strategic issues, can operate at the interface of planning to delivery, who have an excellent understanding of the machinery of New Zealand government and can contribute to system thinking. You will be providing advice and support to a range of complex Public Transport programmes, and any day could see you providing:

- support and guidance around the development of complex Public Transport programmes by providing advice to both internal and external stakeholders
- design and implementation of new initiatives to improve Public Transport and encourage modeshift
- specialist advice and thought leadership to support Public Transport within Urban Growth Agenda partnerships and council planning processes
- strategic and integrated system advice across Waka Kotahi teams contributing to broader urban development and climate change mitigation outcomes
- contributing to and assessing business cases and procurement plans

**We have the following positions available**:

- Team Leader - National Initiatives
- Team Leader - Regional Delivery
- 2 x Principal Advisors
- 5 x Senior Advisors
- 2 x Advisors

Our National Initiatives team designs and implements change programmes, including aspects of the Climate Emergency Response Fund, like improving the affordability of public transport, creating a sustainable bus driver workforce and decarbonising the bus fleet; as well as the new Sustainable Public Transport Framework which sets the rules for how public transport operates in New Zealand. Our Regional Delivery team supports Public Transport Authorities and Waka Kotahi staff by providing expertise on best practice and strategic direction for public transport, including input into business cases, investment proposals, procurement and integrated service design. You'll also work closely with out National Initiatives team to ensure a well-informed interface between operational policy and delivery. The Advisory roles are split between the two teams. Ko koe tēnei | About you You will be used to working in complex environments to either implement government policy or support the delivery of public transport services. We have a lot going on with multiple stakeholders and partners in a busy environment, so the ability to disseminate lots of information and communicate appropriately is a must. To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- Proven experience in a public sector role, (central or local government), with a high level of conceptual and analytical thinking in a complex environment
- Proven experience building credibility across a range of internal and external stakeholders particularly with transport providers or local government
- Experience working with partners and stakeholders to align evidence, outcomes and prioritise systems responses
- A passion for shaping and creating good practice to positively influence the outcomes of the transport system and the wellbeing of New Zealanders
- Some experience in Public Transport planning and operations would be advantageous
