**About you**:
We are seeking an experienced person who is passionate about supporting the primary sector to reduce the environmental footprint of agriculture in the region. The Primary Sector Technical Support team is responsible for building the capability and capacity in the primary sector and within the Waikato Regional Council to support the implementation of Freshwater Farm Plans and Plan Change 1.
You will have a strong commitment to moving Waikato farming onto a more sustainable footing and will work closely with the Primary Sector Engagement team, our information, communication, policy, catchment services and regulation teams.
Qualifications:
- Degree in environmental planning, natural resource management or physical or environmental sciences.
- Related post graduate qualification and an understanding Te Ao Māori is desirable
**Experience**:
- Minimum five-years experience in a similar role
- A good understanding of National and Waikato Regional Council rules and regulations impacting the Primary Sector
- Excellent connections within the Primary Sector
- Understanding of farm systems
- Excellent communication skills
- Political awareness and skill in dealing with sensitive and conflicting issues
**About the role**:
To build the capacity and capability of the primary sector to reduce its environmental footprint and meet regulatory requirements. To support the delivery of extension and advisory services to support changes in practices on farm that will reduce the environmental footprint of agriculture in the region.
Some of the tasks this role undertakes,
- Provide technical advice and guidance material to Waikato Regional Council and the primary sector in an area of expertise.
- Support the development and coordination of FWFP regionally endorsed certification and auditing training programmes.
- Contribute to the development of training for Waikato Regional Council staff.
- Establish and maintain constructive relationships with relevant industry bodies.
