We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters. As we move away from the response to the Covid pandemic now is the time to look to the future, to ensure New Zealanders are cared for by a health system that is innovative, future focussed and world leading.
The Public Health Agency (PHA) is a new and distinctly, branded business unit being established within the Ministry. It will lead population and public health policy, strategy, regulatory, intelligence, surveillance and monitoring functions across the system.

Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do
Be an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team as you lead the team providing strategic cross agency support to the Deputy Director-General (DDG). You will deliver strategic advice, influence leadership and direction and make best use of resources across functions delivering the critical public health priorities of Government. You will make a positive contribution to the collective leadership, direction, and development of Te Pou Hauora Tūmatanui and Manatū Hauora.
Utilise your stakeholder management and influencing skills as you work across Manatū Hauora, Te Aka Whai Ora, Te Whatu Ora and the wider public health system. You will be the Agency's ‘air traffic controller' and be a trusted advisor of the DDG, anticipating and navigating risk, and support the Agency to deliver effective strategic impact. You will guide and coordinate activity across the leadership team, shepherding complex work to a conclusion.
Hybrid working available, with an expectation of regular time spent in our Wellington office.

- Strong people leadership and influencing experience
- Experience and credibility as a senior leader, with ability to work in ambiguity and exercise good judgement
- An ability to work in complex environments and with a wide range of diverse stakeholders that are internal and external to the Ministry
- An understanding and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations
- A tertiary qualification in health management/business administration or relevant field and/or equivalent experience
